The Lord’s Promise of MercyMatthew 15:22 |
Mercy is compassion or relief given to an undeserving recipient How can children be undeserving? In the passage above, a Canaanite woman asked for mercy on her daughter who was possessed by a demon. She was suffering terribly. We would think there would be nothing about a child that could be considered unworthy. Well, actually, from our perspective we would be correct. But if you pay close attention to the passage, the woman was asking for mercy for herself. The stress of having the troubled daughter was more than she could carry. As the story progresses we see that JESUS was testing her and HIS disciples as well. HE began to draw out her faith. In the end, the LORD congratulated the woman on her strong faith and gave the healing she requested. Bottom line . . . .none of us deserve mercy. But we need it severely! And we receive it when we place our faith in the LORD JESUS. Every time! HE never fails to reward faith with mercy! |
