APOSTLES'
Creed (V) |
The
basic creed of Reformed churches, as most familiarly known, is called the Apostles' Creed.
It has received this title because of its great antiquity; it dates from very early times
in the Church, a half century or so from the last writings of the New Testament.
When thinking of the "afterlife" there are three possibilities: 1.
Christianity is wrong (some other form of religion is right) If one or two were true, the all the Biblical and Historical record would have to be ignored. If one were true, we could be sucked into some pretty strange beliefs, not substantiated by either the Word of GOD or by historical fact. If two were true, we would die and then nothing. Sad, but you wouldn't be existing to be sad, so maybe not sad! If three is true (my choice), then we pass through death to judgment. Actually as Followers of JESUS, we pass right through judgment too into HIS Presence as welcome residents! Hard to believe? Too good to be true? What has happened to us as people? We tend to believe the worst about everything! It is the satanic hold on the world (system) in which we live. And believe me, the enemy wants nothing more than for us to find the Resurrection to be unbelievable! So that is why there is a line in the Apostle's Creed that affirms that belief! It is core and vital to every second of our lives! Our faith depends on the realization and expectation that one day we pass through this life into the next and more real one!
